The Company Description of Its Time

For fifteen years, Style.com was where the fashion world watched fashion. Launched in September 2000 by CondéNet, the online arm of Condé Nast, and based in New York, it extended the editorial authority of Vogue and W magazines to the internet: comprehensive runway coverage with enormous galleries of fashion photographs - its archive reached back to the fall 1991 shows - authoritative trend reporting, and the latest social, celebrity and fashion news. The filing does not stint its praise: Style.com was 'one of the most excellent fashion websites,' a complete fashion experience spanning ready-to-wear, couture, trend reports and shopping, and a member of the Advance Publications family alongside Condé Nast and Fairchild Publications.

Vogue Runway, the Commerce Experiment and Farfetch: 2015-2017

On September 1, 2015, Condé Nast moved Style.com's runway coverage to Vogue Runway at vogue.com/fashion-shows, where the archive and the show reports live today. Style.com itself was relaunched in September 2016 as a Condé Nast e-commerce venture - an attempt to sell the clothes its pages made desirable - and was shut down within months. In June 2017 Farfetch, the luxury platform founded by José Neves in 2008, purchased the Style.com domain name and intellectual property from Condé Nast, and the two formed a 'content and commerce' partnership integrating Farfetch products into Condé Nast content, as reported by WWD on June 13, 2017. The Style.com name ended as a storefront experiment; its real legacy - the complete, free, photograph-by-photograph record of the runway era - continues under the Vogue Runway banner.
