The four K companies linked here are all specialists, and three of the four are built around performance. Kaos Worldwide, a privately held sports apparel company based in Stafford, Texas and founded by former NFL star Bert Emanuel and his wife Teri Emanuel, pioneered the category it calls Technical Clothing Systems, with performance properties embedded in the yarns of garments made for men, women and youth, and in 2009 it won a five-year contract to supply sports apparel to the United States military. Klim Clothing, based in Rigby, Idaho, manufactures high-end technical snowmobile and motocross clothing under its own name, serving riders who need protection in cold, wet and high-speed conditions.
The other two K companies work in fashion. Kashi Kicks is an American footwear company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that produces unique sneaker designs as a more fashion-oriented line in both aesthetic and function, endorsed by members of the hip hop and professional athletic communities and promoted through mixtape marketing. Kenneth Cole Productions is the largest of the four: an American fashion house founded in New York in 1982 by Kenneth Cole, famous for launching by selling 40,000 pairs of shoes from a film-shoot trailer in two and a half days, and for running the Kenneth Cole New York, Reaction and Unlisted lines with socially conscious advertising.
United States clothing companies are filed alphabetically by company name, one letter per index page, so a company can be found by its first letter even when its full history is unknown. Each definition is a concise profile rather than a full company history: founding facts, headquarters, products, brands and lines, ownership where it is notable, and the events that made the company worth defining. The K letter shows how much specialisation the American industry supports: technical yarn systems, technical snow clothing, fashion sneakers and a designer fashion house share nothing but an initial, and each is defined by the one thing it does.
Readers who need more depth on a company can follow the path into the Apparel Search fashion company profiles in the names directory, where major companies carry fuller profiles. Companies change — they are acquired, renamed, relaunched or close — so a definition records the company as described at the time of writing, including dated facts such as contracts, launches and line introductions with their years, so the record stays useful even after the company itself has moved on.
The K list linked here covers Kaos Worldwide, Kashi Kicks, Kenneth Cole Productions and Klim Clothing. Each name links to that company's definition page.
Each definition page describes the company itself: what it makes or sells, when and where it was founded, the brands and lines it owns, and the notable events in its history, in a short standardised profile format.
