Winner of the sponsored show at Gallery 825, Paul Magalad presented his avant garde SAN PAREDES collection to a packed crowd of loyal clients, buyers and press while they sipped on premium champagne, Australian wines and enjoyed the artful setting along Gallery Row. This installation show incorporated oversized printed collages of his abstract, hand-sewn garments with live models in outrageous eye-makeup and an energetic duel-off by two resident DJ's.
Long known as the renegade designer of LA's local scene, Paul held his last show in a Chinatown parking lot and was featured by Huell Howser on PBS, who just happened to be shooting in the area. This year, sponsorship by first-time collaborators Apparel Search, Gallery 825 and The Skyline Studios provided a prestigious location, funding for advertising and the opportunity to reach an infinitely wider circle of buyers and press. Neiman Marcus online buyer Akxeeta Patel received a private showing of the collection, marketing executives from Top Button came to meet the designer and manufacturer's representative Bryan Wilson was on hand, scouting new lines for his trendy showroom. A full camera crew from SITV spent most of the evening tracking the show, shooting guests like Tatyana Ali and interviewing the eclectic crowd. Experience the line at www.sanparedes.com .
Next season the corporate sponsors Apparel Search, Gallery 825 and The Skyline Studios plan to jury even more design submissions for their fashion event, hoping to showcase West Coast talent on a much larger scale.
