Knit hats from designer collections to hand-knit animal hats and ski caps
Knit hats cover everything from a designer beanie to a hand-knitted animal hat, and the stores here span that whole range. Hat Attack includes knit hats in the fashionable collection it has made since 1981. Knitwitz, created by My Luong and Roberta Leone in the winter of 2001, hand knits animal hats, baby hats and custom hats with matching scarves - its first and most popular design is the Skullz hat. Teton Toppers has made wool and fleece hats by hand in Teton Valley, Wyoming since 1989, Squirlybond builds ski caps from 100% wool and thick polar fleece, and Sweet Peas hand knits flower, fruit and vegetable design hats for infants and toddlers.

Constance Willems Design :
Knitted hats and accessories. Includes felted, fabric wrap and headband
designs made in Germany.
Hat Attack : Knit, felt,
fleece, shearling, suede, wool and corduroy hats in a variety of sizes and
styles. Hat Attack was founded by husband and wife
team Bill and BJ Gedney in 1981. They saw an opportunity to create a
fashionable collection of hats and caps that took their cue from casual
lifestyle collections. A few years later, Bill and BJ launched Buji Baja-
named after the family's favorite cat- an expanded collection of accessories
including handbags, cold-weather knits, footwear, cosmetic cases and beach
towels.
Knitwitz : Hand knit animal
hats, baby hats, and custom hats with matching scarves available.
Knitwitz was conceived by the creative minds of My
Luong and Roberta Leone in the winter of 2001. Roberta, a
real-mean-knitting-machine, joined forces with My, a graphic designer, to
answer to the call of friends and family needing stylish winter gear. Their
first, and most popular design, to date, is the Skullz hat. After realizing
that baby's heads would also need warmth and style, Knitwitz expanded (or
shrunk a little, rather), to accommodate the smaller noggins. Scarves,
mittens, purses, and even leg-warmers are available through special orders.
Squirlybond Snow Wear Apparel
: These unique caps are created using 100% wool and thick polar fleece to
keep you dry and warm on the slopes.
SquirlyBond
embodies the spirit of creative knitting and the joy of trading within their
borders and beyond. They are local knitters with homegrown quality and
style. They find themselves, building on old concept, knitting to serve and
inspire. Some of the knits are reminiscent of their Scandinavian ancestors
who are the first known traders of knitted goods. Knitting from their own
flock and trading with their neighbors has served as a grassroots way of
supporting the community's overall well being and way of life.
Sweet Peas : Flower, fruit,
and vegetable design hats. Handknit in acrylic or cotton yarns. Sized for
infants and toddlers.
Teton Toppers : Handmade
wool and fleece hats for adults and kids. Here in Teton Valley
(WY)
where there are about 30 frost free days a
year, they wear a lot of hats.
Not
only do they design and create
their products in house,
they have a lot of
fun testing them out. Whether it is for your favorite outdoor pursuit or
just going out and about, they have a hat for
you. Teton Toppers was established in 1989 as a part-time home business,
primarily outfitting local retailers and business owners around the Jackson
Hole area.

Village Hat Shop : Online hat retailer offering a wide range of hats for men, women, and children, including knit hats, beanies, and winter headwear from top brands. The company has been selling hats online since 1997.

Yarn decides warmth, feel and care. Wool is the warmest and the traditional choice for serious winter and ski hats - Squirlybond pairs 100% wool with polar fleece for slope-ready caps, and Teton Toppers designs in a valley with about 30 frost-free days a year, so its wool and fleece hats are tested by its own weather. Acrylic knits are the practical everyday yarn: soft, inexpensive, machine washable and kind to sensitive skin, which is why baby and children's hats such as Sweet Peas' handknit designs come in acrylic or cotton yarns. Cotton itself suits mild weather and chemo-softness rather than deep cold.
The handmade end of this category is where the character is: Knitwitz's animal hats and Skullz design, matching scarves by special order, and Teton Toppers' in-house designs sold around Jackson Hole since 1989. Retail ranges such as Hat Attack and Village Hat Shop offer the same silhouettes with faster delivery and broader sizing. Shoppers choosing between them are really choosing between one-of-a-kind and off-the-shelf - and this page links the Knitted Hat Retail page as well, where the focus narrows further to individual hand knitters.
