Sport swimsuits are engineered for movement: high necklines or racerbacks, secure fits, compression fabrics, and chlorine resistance. Whether for lap swimming, water aerobics, surfing, or beach volleyball, the design brief is performance first.
The right sport suit depends on the sport. Lap swimmers want streamlined one-pieces with minimal drag — open backs for freedom, high backs for coverage. Surfers need rash-guard coverage, flatlock seams, and suits that survive wipeouts (drawstrings and tight fits). Water aerobics favors chlorine-resistant fabrics above all, since pool chemicals are the main adversary. Beach sports need stay-put tops — encapsulation and compression, not fashion ties.
For any chlorinated-water sport, polyester/PBT blends ("endurance" fabrics) outlast nylon by seasons. This is the single most important buying decision in sport swim — more important than style, nearly as important as fit.
Try the sport in the fitting room: simulate strokes, jumps, dives. Nothing should shift, gap, or require adjustment. A sport suit that needs fussing on land will be a disaster in motion.
