The string bikini is minimalism perfected: triangle tops and bottoms held by ties at the neck, back, and hips. Maximum adjustability, minimum fabric, minimum tan lines.
String bikinis suit confident wearers who prioritize tan lines and adjustability — the ties accommodate weight fluctuations, bloat days, and in-between sizes better than any fixed band. They are terrible for active swimming (strings loosen, tops shift) and offer the least support of any style, so this is a lounging-and-sunning choice, not a sport choice. Smaller busts get the classic look; larger busts need the rare structured string styles with underwire or molded cups.
Double-knot everything — single knots loosen in water. Tie neck straps with enough length to bow, not choke. Hip ties should sit where you want them (high on the hip elongates legs) and stay symmetrical; uneven ties are the telltale amateur move.
With so little fabric, quality matters disproportionately: thin, unlined triangles go transparent when wet. Buy lined, from brands with real swim construction, not fast-fashion afterthoughts.
