Men's work boots, shirts, pants, outwear, shorts, footwear, etc. The profile opens with the men's range as a plain working list before it tells any history, and the history, when it comes, starts before the brand does: it all began with Nathan Swartz when he began his shoe making career in 1928 as an apprentice stitcher in Boston. That is not when Timberland began, but that was his entry into the footwear business - a distinction worth keeping. On this page you will find information regarding men's clothing with the Timberland brand, footwear first.

In 1965, the Swartz family introduced the then innovative injection-molding technology into the footwear industry. This enabled the production of virtually waterproof boots made in colder temperature form or in tropical weather form depending on the customer, by connecting the soles to the leather uppers without stitching. The technology sentence is the profile's hinge: a sole joined to its upper without stitching is what made the boot virtually waterproof, and waterproof is the word the brand was about to be named for. In 1969 the company moved the base of its manufacturing operations to Newmarket, New Hampshire.
In 1973, the brand name "Timberland" was introduced for the waterproof leather boots produced by the company. Because the boot proved to be very popular, the company name was officially changed to The Timberland Company. A product naming its maker is the profile's central story - the reverse of the usual sequence, and the reason the boot, not the founder, is the brand. From 1978 to 1979, Timberland added casual and boat shoes to its boots product line, the first widening beyond the work-and-weather boot into the broader footwear range the men's list at the top of this page reflects.
The company behind this brand has a unique culture and their product designs are inspired by the rich New England heritage. Everything they make, every store they open, every aspect of their business has been founded upon the outdoor lifestyle - whether that involves wooded trails or outdoor city streets. Timberland LLC is an American manufacturer and retailer of outdoors wear, with a focus on footwear. It is owned by VF Corporation - in June 2011, Timberland signed a definitive merger agreement with VF Corporation, and a link to the VF profile is carried in this page's links. The company also sells apparel, such as clothes, watches, glasses, sunglasses and leather goods. The official men's route is in References below.
Timberland, fourth entry under T in the Men's Fashion Brands directory: a line of men's work boots, shirts, pants, outerwear, shorts and footwear whose record runs from Nathan Swartz's 1928 start as an apprentice stitcher in Boston, through the Swartz family's 1965 injection-molding innovation and the 1969 move to Newmarket, New Hampshire, to the 1973 introduction of the Timberland name for its waterproof leather boots - a boot so popular the company took its name - casual and boat shoes in 1978-79, and ownership by VF Corporation under the June 2011 merger agreement. That is the brand in full.
