Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee store guides
The East South Central division is one of the three divisions that make up the Census Bureau's South region, and it contains four states: Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. It is the inland heart of the South — no Atlantic or Gulf coastline of its own except Mississippi's short Gulf shore — and its clothing stores serve a mix of mid-size cities, university towns and rural communities. Shoppers here dress for hot, humid summers and mild winters, so local stores give long seasons to warm-weather clothing and a lighter touch to heavy outerwear than northern divisions do. Choose a state on this page to reach its own clothing store guide.

The East South Central States constitute one of the nine Census Bureau Divisions of the United States. The East South Central division of the South, consisting of the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
If you discover that we are missing any fabulous fashion boutiques in the East South Central section of the South region, please tell them to add their store to our directory.
The East South Central states division is one of three that together
make up the larger Census Bureau Region known as the South (the other
two of which are the South
Atlantic States and the
West South Central
States).
Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee sit between the Mississippi River, the Ohio River and the southern Appalachians, and their retail geography follows those borders. Tennessee stores serve shoppers from Memphis to the Smoky Mountain gateway towns; Kentucky pairs Louisville and Lexington retail with smaller-city main streets; Alabama and Mississippi stores anchor their communities as classic Southern department-store and boutique towns. The division's clothing reflects its calendar: school and church dressing traditions, football-season colors in the fall, and a long spring and summer in which breathable fabrics dominate the racks.
The East South Central page is one of three Southern division pages. If your search reaches the Atlantic coast or Florida, the South Atlantic page linked here is the next step; if it reaches Texas or Louisiana, follow the West South Central link instead. Many shoppers live near a division border — northern Alabama shoppers may also shop Tennessee, and Mississippi shoppers may cross into Louisiana or Alabama — so the sideways links on this page are deliberate. Each state link, though, is where the actual store listings live: pick Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi or Tennessee to see that state's clothing stores, and suggest any missing boutique so the directory can add it.
