Takoma Park and Silver Spring: The Directory's Northeast Edge

The Maryland listings that open page 10 have a character unlike Bethesda's polished rows. Takoma Park — Amano on Carroll Avenue, Polly Sue's vintage on Laurel Avenue, Moonshadow's vintage and antiques, and a women's consignment store on New Hampshire Avenue — is the directory's most vintage-leaning neighborhood, a small-city main street where secondhand and eclectic stores dominate. Silver Spring, its larger neighbor, contributes two contrasting listings: Marimekko's Finnish home goods, gifts and textiles on Georgia Avenue — the directory's only brand-flagship home listing — and Metamorphosis, a women's apparel boutique on Wayne Avenue with the page's longest Saturday hours. Together they close out the Maryland suburbs that pages 8 and 9 began.

Penn Quarter, Adams Morgan, and the End of the Directory

The final listings come home to the District. Penn Quarter — Apartment Zero's contemporary home and gifts on 7th Street, the women's apparel and accessories store upstairs on 12th Street (its listing notes the bank-building lobby location), and Mia Gemma's jewelry on F Street — represents downtown's small-scale revival retail.
