The Company Description of Its Time

For over a century, the filing begins, The Neiman Marcus Group has stayed focused on serving the unique needs of the luxury market, staying true to its founders' principle of being recognised as the premier luxury retailer dedicated to distinctive merchandise and superior service. The group is organised in two divisions. The Specialty Retail Stores division includes Neiman Marcus Stores and Bergdorf Goodman. The Direct Marketing division includes Neiman Marcus Direct. Together these retailers offer upscale assortments of apparel, accessories, jewelry, beauty and decorative home products to the affluent consumer, a category list that mixes wardrobe, adornment and home in the classic full-service luxury department store pattern.

The Earlier Snapshot and the Brand Family

The 2009 summary kept beneath it shows the same group six years earlier: 39 Neiman Marcus Stores, the same two Bergdorf Goodman stores in Manhattan, and twenty three Last Call clearance centers, in more than 5 million gross square feet. Neiman Marcus Direct then conducted print catalog and online operations under the Neiman Marcus, Horchow and Bergdorf Goodman names, with the direct business under the Neiman Marcus brand primarily offering women's apparel, accessories and home furnishings, while Horchow offered quality home furnishings, linens, decorative accessories and tabletop items.

Read together, the two summaries map how a luxury group grows without diluting its flagship. Store count rose by two flagships while the clearance estate expanded faster, from twenty three Last Call centers to thirty plus twelve studios, and a new name, CUSP, appeared with six stores. The brand family also explains the kept neighbours on this page: Bergdorf Goodman has its own profile in the B section, and the historical record placed Neiman Marcus beside Barneys, Gucci and Bloomingdale's, the comparison set a luxury shopper of the period would naturally hold in mind.
