A peignoir is a long nightgown for women usually sheer and made of chiffon. It is repeatedly mentioned in the novel The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, somewhat like a show of when she is awakening. Peignoirs are usually sold with matching panties but are often worn with no underwear.
