Cyber Monday Fashion Sales Prior to 2016

Every Cyber Monday from 2002 to 2016 — the archive index

Between 2002 and 2016 Apparel Search built its Cyber Monday coverage year by year — this page is the index to that archive, from the day's unnamed beginnings to the mature online sale.

Thank you for using the Apparel Search website. Between the years 2002 and 2016 this section was created with a Google API code — a data service that fed news and sale information into the yearly pages. Google eventually ended that service, and with it the live feeds behind the early coverage were lost.

What survives is the archive itself: a yearly page for nearly every Cyber Monday of the period, kept for historical reference. The links below lead to each year's record, and to the guide that explains the day.

An archive of online shopping eras: a row of older and newer laptops on a long table with folded clothing from many seasons, and a sign in the center reading Apparel Search

What the Archive Holds

The yearly pages run from 2002 — when the Monday after Thanksgiving had no famous name, three years before the term Cyber Monday was popularized in 2005 — through the full, retailer-built event the day became by the mid-2010s.

Read in sequence, the pages show online fashion shopping growing up: dial-up-era catalog pages giving way to free-shipping offers, mobile checkout, and week-long sale arcs.

The Data Service Behind the Early Pages

The early coverage drew its sale listings from a Google API service that Google later discontinued. When the service closed, the information it had supplied to these pages could no longer be retrieved — the explanation the yearly pages of this era carry for why their listings are thinner than they once were.

The rebuild keeps the surviving record intact: each yearly page stands as the archive's account of its season, with its routes to the clothes guides, stores and directories preserved.

The 2002–2016 Cyber Monday pages are kept as a historical record — the record of how online fashion's biggest day grew up.

Walk the years in order

The yearly pages from 2002 onward show the day changing: unnamed pattern, named event, then a planned fixture of the fashion calendar.

Finish with the current guides

The archive is history; today's clothing sales live in the shopping directory and the Amazon clothing guide linked on this page.

Common Questions

Why do the pre-2016 Cyber Monday pages carry less sale detail than they once did?

Between 2002 and 2016 this section was built with a Google API data service. When Google ended the service, the feeds behind the early pages were lost; the surviving yearly pages are kept as the historical record.

The archive holds yearly pages from 2002 through 2015, the 2017 page, the sales guide and the best-deals page — all linked from this page and the archive block below.

When was the term Cyber Monday first used?

The term was popularized in 2005 by the Shop.org trade group, for the Monday after Thanksgiving — the archive's 2002 to 2004 pages cover the day before it had the name.
