Spring Fashion by Apparel Search - Terms of Interest to the Fashion Industry
First of all, what is "spring"? Is it a mechanical device such as a wire used to coil and then regain its shape after being compressed or extended? Is spring what you have in your step after you first find out that you won the lottery? Well, both of these descriptions of spring may be true. However, we really do not care about these what so ever. Our only concern is the "spring" that follows "fall". You know, the spring when the weather turns warm and your flowers begin to bloom. Why do we find this season appealing? The answer is quite simple. Spring is when fashion changes from "Fall / Winter" to "Spring / Summer". It is then time to check the stores and see the latest spring collections from your favorite designers.
Now, here is the confusing part about the fashion seasons. The "fashion industry" is generally at least a season ahead of the "fashion consumer". For example, designers may show their spring fashion at fashion week events in September. As you may already understand, "September" is not a month during the spring season. Although the designer collection for Spring 2008 is on display on the runway during Fall 2007, this product is most likely not on display at retail. If you visit your local fashion boutique, you will almost certainly not see the garments that you saw displayed in the fashion magazines in September. It is important to understand that the fashion week events are conducted so that "store buyers", can shop the collections. After they purchase product, it then needs to be produced and shipped to the stores. After that takes place, you are welcome to shop until your hearts content. Be patient... Spring styles are coming soon...
Clothing produced for spring collections typically use spring weight or summer weight fabrics. Spring fabrics can generally be determined by the weight of the fabric. Most people enjoy heavier weight fabrics for the winter and lighter weight fabrics for the summer. Color is also a factor for a spring designer collection. Typically light or pastel colors would be used for spring and darker colors for fall. However, this is not set in stone. Actually, this reminds me of an article that I wrote way back in 2000. The article was called Seasonalization (which is a word that I think I have originated).
You can see spring fashion in action at the Fashion Week Photos website or at the Fashion Week Videos website.
