Company career guides D–H — from Deckers Outdoor to Hot Topic

This is page 2 of the Apparel Search fashion careers directory by company name, covering employers from Deckers Outdoor through Hot Topic — the D, F, G and H letters. Between them sit some of the largest hiring machines in American retail (Gap, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Foot Locker), specialist footwear and apparel brands (DSW, Fossil, Genesco, Gildan), and names whose stores have closed but whose career records still matter (Duckwall-ALCO, Gottschalks, Gymboree).

Every link below opens a company career guide in this section. Each guide explains that employer's role families — the store, buying, design, distribution and digital jobs it runs — and points to the official careers channel where live openings are posted. Where a company has closed or been absorbed, the guide states the position factually and translates its roles into the vocabulary today's employers use, so a closed company's name on your resume still works for you.

Big Employers and Brand Specialists

Scale is the first thing to grasp in this slice. Dollar General and Family Dollar each run thousands of small stores, so their career maps are dominated by store and district roles, distribution centres and supply chain, with comparatively small apparel buying teams handling value clothing basics. Gap Inc. spreads hiring across four brands — Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta — and two coasts, while Foot Locker's map is footwear-led and global, from sneaker-culture store teams to buying desks that live on launch calendars.

The specialists reward depth over breadth. Fossil designs watches and leather goods and licenses designer brands; Genesco pairs the Journeys mall footwear chain with Johnston & Murphy and wholesale licensed brands; Gildan is a manufacturer first, hiring knitting, dyeing, sewing, quality and supply-chain staff far more than store staff; Gucci — reached through its own guide in this section's G pages — recruits luxury client advisors and Tuscan craft roles through Kering. Read the guides comparatively: the right target is the employer whose daily work matches your skills, not simply the biggest name.

Closed Names in This Range, and What Their Guides Do

Three kinds of ending appear in D–H. Duckwall-ALCO and Gottschalks liquidated outright (in 2015 and 2009), so their guides are historical: they record the small-town discount and regional department-store careers those companies ran, and how to present that experience now. Dress Barn and Destination Maternity closed their stores but their brands continued online under new owners, so their guides split the story — store-era roles as history, brand and digital roles as the present route in.

Gymboree's stores closed in 2019 and the brand was relaunched by The Children's Place, while Finish Line has been part of JD Sports since 2018 with stores progressively converting to that banner, and Family Dollar began operating as a standalone private company again in 2025 after its sale by Dollar Tree. In each case the guide names the current hiring channel honestly. Never send an application to a site claiming to recruit for a company whose guide here says it has closed — check the guide, then apply through the channel it names.

Common Questions

Which companies on this page hire the most people?

The discount and chain employers — Dollar General, Family Dollar and Gap Inc. — hire at the largest scale, mainly in store, district and distribution roles. Brand specialists such as Fossil, Genesco and Gildan hire fewer people but in deeper craft and product roles.

Can I still apply to Dress Barn, Gymboree or Finish Line?

Not in their old forms: Dress Barn trades online only, Gymboree is run by The Children's Place, and Finish Line hiring routes through JD Sports. Each company's guide on this page names the channel that actually takes applications.

How do I reach pages 1, 3 and 4 of this directory?

Use the series navigation on this page: page 1 covers A–C, page 3 covers J–Q and page 4 covers R–Z, and every page of the series links all four in order.
