Welcome to the W section of the Women's Fashion Brands directory. In this area of the fashion brand directory you will find women's fashion brands from leading apparel companies and fashion designers that begin with the letter W: seven brand profiles in all, gathered in the grid below. W is a working letter - two intimates manufacturers, a leather retailer, a plus size specialist, an outdoor name from 1830 and two denim labels at opposite ends of the market - and this hub introduces each at the size its own profile keeps.
If you know of an important women's fashion brand that begins with the letter W and is not listed in this section, please let us know. And if you prefer to search by clothing category rather than by a specific clothing brand, the Clothes Guide linked from this page organises the same wardrobe by garment instead of by name, while the A-to-Z letter links ride in this page's alphabet bar, exactly as the directory has always laid them out.
The letter opens with the intimates pair. Wacoal is the Japanese lingerie manufacturer founded in 1949 by Koichi Tsukamoto, launched in America in 1985 and maker of seven brands including b.tempt'd, profiled here strictly as product - fit, fabrics and construction. Wonderbra is the push-up underwire brassiere developed in Canada, its name first trademarked in the U.S. in 1955, its 1961 Model 1300 virtually identical to today's product, and its trademark now held by a HanesBrands subsidiary with a split European licence. Both pages stay product-focused, as this directory's sensitive-category rule requires.
The specialists follow. Wilsons Leather is the U.S. leather retailer whose history dates to 1899 as Bermans Leather, formed by the 1988 merger with Wilsons House of Suede and Leather and acquired by G-III Apparel Group in July 2008. Woman Within is the plus size brand for sizes 12W and up, begun in 1901 as a Lane Bryant dress shop and described as the world's leader in plus size apparel. Woolrich is the outdoor name that has embraced the outdoor lifestyle since 1830, with an extensive women's collection from shirts and jackets to pajamas and socks. And denim closes the letter twice: William Rast, founded in 2005 by Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala and best known for premium jeans, and Wrangler, whose 1936 Blue Bell fabric first cut shrinkage to less than 1 percent.
Read each profile for its full record. Wacoal's gives the founding, the seven-brand family and the 1985 and 2009 launches; Wilsons Leather's dates its merger and its acquisition; Wonderbra's traces a trademark through Canadian Lady, Sara Lee and HanesBrands with the licence split intact; Wrangler's keeps both of its measured fabric claims, 1936 and Advanced Comfort. Woolrich's record is a single date and a category list, and Woman Within's first-person retail catalogue shows how the brand presented its sizes and range.
From here you can browse onward to each of the seven brands, and across the whole A-to-Z of women's brand letters, in the grid below, the alphabet bar and the navigation. Seven profiles spanning 1830 to 2005, from a Japanese lingerie maker and a Canadian bra design to a Tennessee-meets-Hollywood denim label: W is the directory's working wardrobe in miniature.
