Welcome to the O section of the Men's Fashion Brands directory. In this area of the fashion brand directory you will find men's fashion brands from leading apparel companies and fashion designers that begin with the letter O: four brand profiles gathered in the grid below - O'Neill, Oakley, Oleg Cassini and Original Penguin. It is a letter of water, light and mid-century America: a surf house that began in a garage, an eyewear house that patented its way into apparel, a designer whose reputation was made in film and the White House years, and a clothing line rooted in the 1950s and 60s.

If you know of an important men's clothing brand that begins with the letter O and is not listed in this section, please let us know. Each profile below is direct and unpadded: a garage-to-international arc for O'Neill, a patent count for Oakley, a biography for Oleg Cassini, who has no product list at all, and a parent-company note for Original Penguin.

The Four O Brands

O'Neill is the surf record: originally a Californian surf wear and surfboard brand started in 1952 by Jack O'Neill, whose first Surf Shop stood in a garage across the Great Highway, whose glued neoprene vests took him into the wetsuit business, and who is credited with the wetsuit itself - by 1980 an international company dominating the world's wetsuit market. Oakley is the performance record: Oakley, Inc., based in Lake Forest, California, established in 1975 and acquired in 2007 by Luxottica, holding more than 600 patents for eyewear, materials and performance gear, extended from sports eyewear into apparel and accessories.

Oleg Cassini is the designer record: an American fashion designer born to an aristocratic Russian family with maternal Italian ancestry, started as a designer in Rome, reputation established designing for films, particularly well known as a designer for Jacqueline Kennedy whilst she was First Lady, with the brand's licensing and public relations run by his wife Marianne Nestor from 1971. Original Penguin is the wardrobe record: an American clothing line with roots in the 1950s and 60s, specializing in clothing, footwear and eyewear, offering polo shirts, sweaters, outerwear, pants, dress shirts, shorts, swimwear and suit separates plus big & tall sizes - by Munsingwear, a division of Perry Ellis International.

How to Use This O Hub

Start from the water, the light, the name or the wardrobe. For wetsuits, board shorts and beach lifestyle sportswear, open O'Neill and judge by the founding garment - the neoprene vest that became the wetsuit business. For sunglasses, goggles and performance apparel, open Oakley, begin with its 600-plus patents and in-house design, and file the piece in its sports performance, active or lifestyle register. For the designer name, open Oleg Cassini and read the biography - Rome, films, ready-to-wear, Jacqueline Kennedy, and licensing from 1971. For a full mid-century wardrobe from polos to suit separates, in big & tall sizes as well, open Original Penguin and follow its own links into Munsingwear and Perry Ellis International.

The directory's shopping and research routes run through all five O pages - this hub and its four profiles - in the grid below, the alphabet bar, the navigation and each profile's own lists. Four names make the O section on their own pages: the garage surf shop of 1952, the eyewear house of 1975, the First Lady's designer, and the penguin of the 1950s and 60s.
