Welcome to the G section of the Men's Fashion Brands directory. In this area of the fashion brand directory you will find men's fashion brands from leading apparel companies and fashion designers that begin with the letter G: seven brand profiles in all, gathered in the grid below - Generra, Geoffrey Beene, Gildan, Girbaud, Gucci, Guess and G Unit. G is a letter of extremes: its oldest brand begins in Florence in 1921, its youngest companies were founded in the 1980s, and between them sit a New York design pioneer, a French denim house, a Canadian-American basics maker and a Seattle label remembered for shirts that changed color with heat.

If you know of an important men's clothing brand that begins with the letter G and is not listed in this section, please let us know. Readers who prefer categories can use the wider Fashion Brands directory and its Popular Fashion Brands, and the A-to-Z letter links ride in this page's alphabet bar. Each profile below gives its brand's founding facts, ownership changes and product claims in full - including a plain statement wherever a brand's record is thin, as the G-Unit record honestly is.

The Seven G Brands

The letter's luxury pole is Florentine. Gucci, founded by Guccio Gucci in Florence in 1921, is the definition of luxury - an Italian luxury brand of fashion and leather goods, held through the Gucci Group by Kering, recorded under creative director Alessandro Michele as redefining luxury for the 21st century. Its American counterpart is a designer rather than a house: Geoffrey Beene, one of America's true design pioneers, whose superbly tailored men's styles married comfort and luxury and whose brand spans dress shirts, neckwear, tailored clothing and more, sold in over 2,500 United States retailers. Between luxury and tailoring sits Girbaud, the French company founded by stylists François Girbaud and Marithé Bachellerie in 1972, world-known for the industrialization of the Stonewash, baggy trousers and skin-tight jeans.

The letter's second half runs on volume and denim. Guess, established in 1981 by the Marciano brothers, who left the south of France in pursuit of the American dream, redefined denim from a European influence and became an American clothing brand and retailer. Generra, the Seattle sportswear company founded in 1980, was one of the must-have brands of the late 1980s and the maker of Hypercolor, the heat-changing line whose rights later passed to Public Clothing Company. Gildan is the trade's own name - a Canadian-American manufacturer of blank activewear for screen printers as well as branded basics. G-Unit closes the letter: a men's hip hop fashion brand, presented as a stylish menswear brand, with a thin record stated plainly.

How to Use This G Hub

Start from the kind of research you are doing. For a brand's story, open its profile: each one gives the brand's facts in full and carries the official brand site in References - four of the seven do; the Geoffrey Beene, Generra and G-Unit profiles list no official site. For a purchase, use the shopping buttons on each profile and the men's clothing store directory linked from every page, and judge each garment against the standard its own profile sets, from Gucci's craftsmanship claim to Gildan's blank test.

Seven names make the G section: a luxury house, a design pioneer, a denim innovator, a denim redefiner, a color-changing 1980s label, a basics manufacturer and a hip hop brand. Use the grid below, the alphabet bar and the navigation to move between this hub and its seven profiles.
