Welcome to the C section of the Men's Fashion Brands directory. In this area of the fashion brand directory you will find men's fashion brands from leading apparel companies and fashion designers that begin with the letter C: twelve brand profiles in all, gathered in the grid below - Calvin Klein, Carhartt, Champion, Chaps, Cherokee, Claiborne, Cole Haan, Columbia, Converse, Coogi, CoolMax and Crocs. C is the directory's working letter: an 1889 workwear company and a Portland outdoor maker share it with a minimal American designer label, a century of court sneakers, and two of the most famous shoes in the world.
If you know of an important men's clothing brand that begins with the letter C and is not listed in this section, please let us know. If you prefer to search by clothing category and not by a specific clothing brand, you are welcome to try our Clothes Guide; and if you are specifically looking to review luxury fashion, you can try the Fashion Brand Directory. The A-to-Z letter links ride in this page's alphabet bar, exactly as the directory has always laid them out.
The letter's spine is dated American making. Carhartt is the oldest: founded in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt and still family-owned by his descendants in Michigan, known for jackets, overalls and fire resistant clothing. Converse follows in 1908, dominant on American courts for over a half century behind the Chuck Taylor All Star; Champion has led men's athletic apparel since 1919; Cole Haan began in Chicago in 1928 under Trafton Cole and Eddie Haan's resolution to make good goods and nothing but good goods, and was bought by Apax Partners from Nike for $570 million in 2012. Columbia, born and raised in Portland, has made gear for more than 70 years under Chairman Gert Boyle, promising to keep the wearer WARM, DRY, COOL and PROTECTED.
The designer and lifestyle names fill the letter's second half. Calvin Klein, founded in 1968 by Calvin Klein and Barry Schwartz and acquired by PVH Corp. in 2003, leads American fashion with a clean, often minimal aesthetic. Chaps, launched by the Ralph Lauren Corporation in 1978, presents timeless all-American style from preppy sportswear to tailored occasions. Cherokee began with a Venice Beach wedge in 1973, built the American Cool family brand, partnered with Target until its license expired on January 31, 2017, and became Apex Global Brands in June 2019. Claiborne was the men's collection of Liz Claiborne Inc. - the first woman-founded Fortune 500 company - whose trademark rights JC Penney bought in November 2011. Crocs closes the letter with the Classic Clogs, instantly recognized around the world. Between them stand Coogi, filed for men's sweaters, and CoolMax, filed for men's performance clothing - and their profiles say so plainly rather than borrowing one.
Start from the kind of research you are doing. For a brand's story, open its profile: each one sets out its founding facts, ownership changes and product claims in full, and each carries the official brand site in References where one is available, which Champion, Coogi and CoolMax do not have. For a purchase, use the shopping buttons on each profile and the men's clothing store directory linked from every page, and judge each garment against the standard its own profile records, from Carhartt's rugged work list to Columbia's four capitalised promises.
Twelve names make the C section: two 19th-and-early-20th-century makers still at work, a designer minimalism and a preppy lifestyle label, a licensing portfolio and a department-store men's collection, an outdoor tester and an athletic leader, three famous shoes. That is the C section - its order and its range.
