In October 2017 the company announced that it was planning to rename itself as Tapestry, effective on October 31, 2017 (Halloween). The company's ticker symbol will change from COH to TPR as well. Tapestry is the new company name of Coach, changed mainly to reflect the company's expanding portfolio: Coach also owns boot maker Stuart Weitzman, which Coach bought in 2015, and fellow handbag maker Kate Spade, which Coach acquired in 2017. That dated announcement heads the historical profile, and it heads this one - the Coach brand filing continues under its own name, while the corporate record it belongs to is the Tapestry story, cross-linked in this page(?:'|')s routes.
Today, the Coach reputation for accessible luxury lifestyle collections is renowned internationally. During the last decade, Coach has emerged as America's preeminent designer, producer and marketer of fine accessories and gifts for women and men, including handbags, business cases, luggage and travel accessories, wallets, outerwear, eyewear, gloves, scarves, fragrance and fine jewelry. Together with licensing partners, they also offer watches, footwear and office furniture bearing the Coach brand name. Every Coach product embodies the perfect balance between design and function: shapes, hardware, pockets and straps are carefully considered to provide maximum efficiency, comfort and style; leather and materials are meticulously selected; seams are double-stitched where reinforcement is required; and traditional hand-finishing techniques lend each bag its character, quality and distinction.
Broad reach is the distribution half of the record: there are currently over 350 Coach stores in the United States and Canada, with more expected to open, plus Coach boutiques within select department stores and specialty retailer locations, and a catalogue that is an important advertising and sales vehicle domestically and abroad. In 1999 Coach launched its online store at coach.com, listed in the References. The global figures, as recorded, run to over 900 department store locations in the US, 140 international department stores, retail store and duty free shop locations in 21 countries, and 137 department store shop-in-shops and retail and factory store locations operated by Coach Japan, Inc. - Japan being the international emphasis of the company's long-term strategic plan.
