"Fashion bra" is the industry's catch-all for bras designed to be seen: strappy cages, longline silhouettes, bold colors, cutouts, and details borrowed from ready-to-wear. Where a t-shirt bra aims for invisibility, a fashion bra is part of the outfit.
Wear them under open-back tops, sheer blouses, low armholes, and off-shoulder necklines — anywhere a standard strap would ruin the line but bare feels wrong. They are also simply fun: a strappy bralette under a blazer or a lace longline peeking from a sweater reads intentional and current. Support varies wildly by design, so treat each fashion bra on its own merits rather than assuming.
Decide first whether you need the bra to function, to decorate, or both. Strappy styles with multiple adjustment points fit more bodies than fixed-strap designs. Check where every strap lands against your specific tops — bring the actual neckline to the fitting room if you can. Dark colors and black are most versatile; neon strapping is a commitment.
Many fashion bras come in S/M/L rather than band-and-cup sizing, which means less precision. If you are outside the middle of a size range, look for fashion bras that use real bra sizing — they exist and fit dramatically better.
