Strapless bras do all their work through the band: wide, silicone-gripped, often longline, with boning or molded cups for shape. No straps means the band cannot cheat — it must anchor everything.
Essential for strapless dresses, off-shoulder tops, and one-shoulder necklines. Also useful as a "just in case" bra for events with uncertain dress codes. The key insight: a strapless bra must fit more precisely than any other style. Buy your true band size — or even one band smaller than usual, since there are no straps to compensate — and expect to try several brands, because band grip varies enormously.
In the fitting room: raise your arms, bend over, twist. The bra should not budge. Silicone gripper strips along the top and bottom edges are non-negotiable. Longline styles (extending to the waist) stay up dramatically better than short bands by distributing grip over more torso. For larger busts, molded cups plus a longline band is the winning combination.
Even the best strapless bra migrates slightly over a long evening — plan a discreet restroom adjustment. And never buy a strapless bra in a hurry before an event; this is the one style that demands a proper fitting session.
