Front-closure bras fasten between the cups instead of at the back — usually with a sturdy clasp, sometimes with a zip or hook-and-eye column. The design eliminates back-clasp fumbling entirely and creates a smooth, hardware-free back.
These are genuinely easier to put on and take off, which matters for anyone with shoulder, mobility, or dexterity limitations — and for everyone else on rushed mornings. The front clasp also pulls the cups slightly together, creating natural cleavage without padding, which makes front-closures popular under V-necks and wrap dresses. Racerback and T-back styles almost always use front closures for the same reason.
One clasp does the work of three or four hooks, so fit precision matters: there is no "loosest to tightest" adjustment as the band stretches. Buy the band snug but not strangling, and know these bras have a shorter lifespan than back-closure equivalents. Also check the clasp profile under thin tops — bulky clasps can show.
Do the bounce test in the fitting room. A quality front clasp stays shut under movement; a weak one pops at the worst possible moment. Metal clasps outlast plastic, and a secondary safety hook is worth its weight in peace of mind.
