Foam bras use thin, flexible polyurethane foam cups — usually 2-5mm — to create a smooth, rounded shape with light modesty coverage. Do not confuse them with push-up padding: foam cups shape rather than enlarge, and the best ones feel like almost nothing.
This is the workhorse cup for t-shirts, knits, and anything smooth. Foam cups hide the nipple, prevent show-through, and give a consistent rounded profile regardless of what your natural shape is doing that day. They suit small to large busts alike, though very full busts may prefer seamed, non-foam cups for better lift and separation — foam's uniform smoothness can create a "mono-boob" effect on larger sizes if the cup is too shallow.
Cheap foam creases permanently if folded; quality foam springs back. Look for breathable, perforated foam if you run warm. Edges should taper thin so they do not draw a visible line under clothes. And check the cup interior: a cotton or moisture-wicking lining against the skin is far more comfortable than bare foam.
Never fold foam cups into each other for storage — lay flat or nest gently without creasing. Hand wash cold; heat warps foam. Replace when cups develop permanent dents or the foam yellows, which signals breakdown.
