A collection of women's clothing beginning with G: a gown, golf polo, leather gloves and gladiator sandals

Welcome to the G section of the Women's Clothes Guide. This page lists every women's clothing, footwear and accessories topic in the guide that starts with the letter G — 15 guides in alphabetical order below. If you know other women's apparel categories beginning with G that should be listed here, we would be glad to hear the suggestion.

G is a letter of two halves. One half belongs to a single sport: the golf family fills five of the fifteen guides, because golf is one of the few activities that still dresses its players by a written code, and each piece of the kit — apparel, shirts, shorts, shoes and the single glove — earns its own page. The other half is pure range: the most formal garment in the wardrobe (the gown) sits a few links from the least formal (the graphic t-shirt), with a 1960s icon (the go-go boot) and a two-thousand-year-old sandal (the gladiator) between them.

How the G Topics Are Organised

Start with the game: golf apparel is the umbrella guide to the course wardrobe and its dress codes, and the four specialist guides hang from it — golf shirts for the collared tops the codes require, golf shorts for the inseam rules, golf shoes for spikes and waterproofing, and golf gloves for the lead-hand glove. Beside them stands the general gloves guide — dress, leather and winter gloves — which is a different subject that happens to share a name.

Then the occasion wear: gowns classifies the formal long dress by silhouette and event, while glamorous dresses covers the high-shine, red-carpet effect that any formal dress can aim for. The footwear of the section is historical in both directions — gladiator sandals lacing up from ancient Rome, go-go boots stepping out of 1964.

Sport, Print and the Foundations

The remaining guides cover the active and the everyday. Gymnastics clothing is the precision end of sportswear — leotards engineered for rotation — while graphic t-shirts are the printed, personal end of casual dress, more poster than garment. Underneath everything sit the foundation guides, written as plain product guides: garter belts explained by their construction and clips, and the two g-string guides — swimwear and underwear — which share a silhouette and differ, as the guides explain, in the fabric utilised.

Every G guide follows the same pattern as the rest of this directory: what the garment is, how it is made, how to choose and fit it, and how to care for it — with the shopping links collected in the box above when you are ready to buy.

Using the Rest of the Directory

The Clothes Guide is organised letter by letter, and the letter bar near the top of this page jumps to any letter hub in one click — A for accessories-led topics, B for the large boots and bras sections, S for the biggest letter of all. Topics that span letters are cross-linked inside the guides themselves: the golf pages in this section, for example, link out to the footwear and shorts guides elsewhere in the directory. If a G topic you expected is missing, it may be filed under its garment rather than its adjective — golf shoes are here, but shoes in general live at S, and sandals at S as well as at gladiator in this section.
