Women's clothing items beginning with W laid flat: walking shoes, a wallet, a wedding dress detail, western boots and a folded wool sweater, product photograph, no people

Welcome to the W section of the Women's Clothes Guide. This page lists every women's clothing topic in the guide that starts with the letter W — forty-seven guides in all. W is a working letter: footwear built for walking, water, weather and work; the wedding pair of dress and gown; western boots, hats and westernwear with their ranch history; winter clothing and boots; and the guide's complete wool wardrobe.

Each topic in the grids has its own buying guide covering materials, construction, fit and sizing, choosing and care. Topic pages also carry a Common Questions card answering the questions that page's subject genuinely raises. Use the alphabet bar under the heading to move to another letter of the Women's Clothes Guide.

How the W Guides Are Organised

The footwear topics each answer a distinct buying problem. Walking shoes are specified by stride and mileage; water sports shoes and wetsuits by what happens when everything is soaked; waterproof, wide-calf, winter and work boots by weather, leg fit, cold and workplace rating respectively; and the wedge family is divided by construction — boots, closed shoes, peep toes and sandals — because a wedge sole behaves differently in each. Western boots belong with the western group, where the rodeo and ranch history on the westernwear page explains why the whole category is built the way it is.

The two wedding pages deliberately divide the subject: the wedding dress guide covers the purchase — silhouettes, bridal sizing, the ordering calendar and budget — while the wedding gown guide covers the formal garment itself, its history from Queen Victoria's 1840 wedding, its trains and construction, and its preservation. Likewise the wool collection separates its four general pages by scope — clothing as a wardrobe system, apparel as fibre grades and fabric systems, fashion as style and proportion, and two accessory pages split between function and fashion — before the garment guides begin.

Using This Guide

Every topic guide follows the same order — materials and construction, fit and sizing, choosing for real use, and care — so once you have read one W guide you can find your way around any other in seconds, and each closes with the questions its subject raises most often. The shopping box at the top of each guide links to search results for that exact topic, so the pages stay useful as ranges change.

If you are researching one garment, the A–Z grids above are the fastest route. If you are building a wool wardrobe, start with the Wool Clothes index in the wool collection — it maps the whole fibre section and links every wool garment guide in this letter.

Women's Wool Collection

Seventeen guides to the wool wardrobe: the wool clothes index, the general guides to wool apparel, clothing, fashion and both kinds of accessories, then garment by garment — blazers, coats, trench coats, suits and sports coats, skirts, pants, sweaters, tights, gloves, mittens, hats and scarves.
