Jacquard Tape Manufacturers

Pattern, lettering and logos woven into the tape itself on jacquard looms.

A jacquard tape carries its design in its structure. Instead of printing ink onto a finished band or stitching a motif over it, a jacquard loom controls warp threads individually so the pattern — a logo, lettering, a stripe arrangement, a repeating motif — is woven into the tape as the tape itself is made. The design cannot peel, crack or wash off, because there is no surface layer to lose: reverse the tape and the pattern is there too, in negative. That permanence is why jacquard weaving is the standard method for branded tapes, name tapes, lanyards and quality decorative trims.

This page explains jacquard tapes for garment and accessory buyers: how the weaving works and how it compares with printing and embroidery, the fibers and widths in trade use, where woven-pattern tapes are used, and what a custom design requires from the buyer. The manufacturers below weave jacquard tapes and webbings for garments, bags, footwear and accessories. The guides at the bottom of the page cover the rest of the tapes family, including the plain, satin and ribbon tapes that jacquard designs are often woven to accompany.

Woven In, Not Printed On

On a jacquard loom, a programmed pattern mechanism lifts selected warp threads for each pick of weft, so colored warp and weft yarns combine on the surface to form the design. Fine lettering, sharp logo edges and multi-color motifs are all achievable within the tape's width, and the resolution of the design is set by the thread density: the finer the yarns and the denser the weave, the smaller and crisper the lettering that can be woven legibly. Makers will state the minimum letter height and line weight their equipment holds, and artwork should be prepared to those limits rather than shrunk hopefully from a print design.

Printing is cheaper for short runs and photographic color, but sits on the surface and wears. Embroidery adds a raised, premium texture but is slower, stiffer and costlier per metre. Jacquard weaving sits between them: it needs a loom set-up and suits production runs rather than one-offs, but once running it produces design and tape in one fast operation, with the pattern as durable as the tape itself.

Fibers, Widths and Constructions

Polyester is the workhorse fiber for jacquard tape: it takes sharp woven detail, holds color well and resists abrasion and laundering. Nylon serves where higher strength or a softer hand is wanted, cotton and rayon appear in garment trims where a natural or lustrous face matters, and polypropylene is used for economical webbing applications. Widths run from narrow garment tapes of a few millimetres through the common branding widths used for straps and lanyards to wide webbings for belts and bag handles, with the design field — the area the pattern can occupy — always narrower than the full tape once plain margins and selvedges are allowed for.

Construction follows duty. A light single-layer tape suits garment trim, drawstring substitution and decorative edging. Heavier woven constructions carry load as bag straps, belts, pet leads and luggage webbing, where the jacquard design must be woven without weakening the webbing — one reason load-bearing jacquard work belongs with mills that weave webbing as a main product rather than as a sideline. Elastic jacquard versions weave the design into waistband and strap elastics, combining branding with stretch in underwear, sportswear and braces.

Where Jacquard Tapes Are Used

Branding is the signature use: a woven logo tape sewn along a garment edge, across a bag or into a shoe identifies the maker every time the product is handled, and cannot be removed without removing the tape. Name tapes and jacquard name labels use the same weaving to put lettering into school, care-home and military clothing identification. Lanyards are woven by the same method at strap width, carrying conference, workplace and promotional lettering, and decorative jacquard ribbons trim traditional dress, uniforms, medals and ceremonial wear where a woven pattern reads as quality in a way print does not.

Functional patterned webbing extends the list: pet collars and leads, camera and phone straps, suspenders and belts, luggage and sports straps, and footwear components. In each case the buyer is purchasing two things in one component — the mechanical tape and the communication printed goods would otherwise have to supply — which is why jacquard tape is specified by marketing and product teams together rather than by the trim buyer alone.

Specifying a Custom Jacquard Tape

Supply the design as clean artwork at the tape's actual width, state the number of colors and the ground color, the fiber, the width and construction, and the end use so the mill can set weave density and strength. Expect a woven strike-off before production: weaving translates artwork, and fine lines, tight curves and small letters can simplify in yarn — the strike-off, judged at arm's length and at reading distance, is where that translation is approved. Confirm minimum order quantities early, since loom set-up makes jacquard uneconomic at very small volumes, and confirm how repeats are measured if the design must align at cut points.

For stock designs, most mills hold pattern ranges that avoid set-up cost entirely. For custom work, agree who owns the pattern program and artwork, how re-orders will match the approved strike-off for color and density, and the laundering or abrasion performance the finished product requires — a lanyard, a garment trim and a dog lead ask very different things of the same woven structure.

Common Questions

How is a jacquard tape different from a printed tape?

The design is woven into the tape on a jacquard loom as the tape is made, rather than printed onto its surface afterwards. A woven design cannot peel, crack or wash off, and it appears in reverse on the back of the tape; a printed design sits on the face only.

What artwork does a jacquard tape maker need?

Clean artwork prepared at the tape’s actual width, within the maker’s stated minimum letter height and line weight, with the ground color and thread colors named. A woven strike-off is produced for approval before production, because weaving can simplify very fine detail.

What are jacquard tapes used for?

Branded garment trim and logo tapes, name tapes, lanyards, belts and suspenders, bag and luggage straps, pet collars and leads, footwear components, elastic waistbands with woven branding, and decorative and ceremonial ribbons.
