Welcome to Page 2 of the Women's Clothes Guide P, the petite page. Every one of the 84 guides linked below is about clothing made for petite proportions — and petite, in the clothing trade, is a proportion, not a size and not a judgment. Petite ranges are patterned for women around 5'4" and under, whatever their dress size, with every measurement re-scaled rather than simply cropped.
That distinction runs through the whole collection. A standard garment shortened at the hem still puts its waist, knee, elbow and pockets where a taller body expects them. A petite garment puts them where a petite body actually has them — which is why these guides exist separately from the main P topics on Page 1, and why petite shoppers so often describe the right petite piece as the first one that ever truly fit.
Four measurements define the petite re-proportioning, and the guides below return to them constantly. The rise of trousers and jeans is shorter, so the waistband reaches the natural waist without spare fabric below it. The inseam is shorter — and, as importantly, the knee position and tapering are placed higher to match. Sleeves end at the wrist bone, with shoulder seams and armholes scaled to a narrower frame. Dress and jacket waist placement sits higher, where a petite torso needs it.
Those changes are also the boundary of what tailoring can fix. A tailor can shorten a hem or a sleeve cheaply; moving a waistline, shortening a rise or re-scaling a whole bodice is pattern surgery at pattern prices. The petite guides are honest about that line — what to buy in true petite ranges, and what can safely be bought standard and altered.
The dress rail is where petite patterning pays off most visibly, because a dress is one garment that must agree with the body at shoulder, waist, hip and hem all at once. The collection covers the everyday end — petite casual dresses, sundresses and the main petite dress guide — and the dressed-up end in depth: petite cocktail dresses, evening gowns and gowns, formal dresses, party and prom dresses, and a full bridal shelf of wedding dresses, wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses and bridal fashion.
Each of those guides takes the same approach: which silhouettes flatter a shorter frame without swamping it, where the waist and hem should land, how much volume in skirts and sleeves a petite body can carry, and the alteration questions to settle before the occasion, not after.
Day to day, the collection covers the whole wardrobe. Petite jeans and denim, pants, bottoms, shorts, Bermuda shorts and capris handle the lower half; blouses, shirts in both sleeve lengths, knit tops, tops and T-shirts handle the top. Petite suits and workwear build the working wardrobe, activewear and casualwear the off-duty one, and the designer shelves — designer brands, designer collections and designer jeans — cover the premium end of petite retail.
Outerwear gets full treatment too: petite coats, wool coats, overcoats, down jackets, jackets and leather jackets, plus rain coats and rainwear — the categories where a too-long sleeve or a misplaced button stance cannot be hidden, and where petite scaling is worth the most money.
The quieter shelves are here as well: petite sleepwear, sleep pants, sleep shirts, pajamas and robes for the night; petite swimwear and cover-ups for the beach; petite hosiery, socks, underwear, bras, intimates, lingerie and shapewear for the foundation layer; and petite accessories, belts, gloves, hats, shawls, footwear and shoes to finish. Seasonal guides cover petite fall and spring fashion, and there is even a petite maternity shelf for the months when two kinds of specialist sizing meet.
Two guides close the page in their own group below: the petite silk blouse and sleepwear guides, filed in the collection's silk subfolder. After them, the petite guide series pages link the collection's own news and updates. Then Page 3 of this directory takes up the letter's other sized wardrobe: plus size clothing.
Every petite topic in the collection, in alphabetical order. Each guide covers its garment's petite patterning, fit checks and shopping advice in full.
The collection's silk subfolder: two guides to silk in petite proportions - blouses for the day wardrobe and sleepwear for the night.
The petite collection's own front pages: its news, blogs and photos hub, the continuation page, and the third page of the petite size clothing guide.
One more page! Page 3 of the Women's P directory holds the complete plus size collection — 86 guides to clothing cut for plus size women, from dresses and denim to swimwear and workwear.
